Today’s bunny? Fake relationships. This is my new obsession. I blame Eden Finley’s Fake Boyfriends series. Oh, and Sarah Honey and Lisa Henry’s Bad Boyfriends, Inc. series.
Basically, I love the idea of faking a relationship and then accidentally falling in love. It’s such a fun trope. And now I’m wondering if it can be pushed into the BDSM sphere.
Like, I don’t know, maybe there’s a Little or a Pup who wants to show their ex what they’re missing out on. Or perhaps a boyfriend-for-hire accidentally finds himself roped into (ha! get it? because ropes are kinky) a scene with the guy he’s pretending to date for a night and he discovers he’s into it.
Or maybe he’s a Daddy for hire (which kind of makes me think of AW Scott’s Daddy on Demand) who straight up falls A over T for the Boy who hires him…who is not looking for a real relationship, thanks, he was just trying to appease his meddling family.
Or then there’s the Omegaverse possibilities. Alphas for hire (not for in-heat purposes, just for fake dating) is a fun trope on its own. I kind of like the idea of an alpha accidentally hiring another alpha (thinking he’d gone for an omega fake boyfriend) and falling for him. Bonus points if one is a single dad and not looking to settle down (especially not with another alpha). Or the classic ‘alpha fake boyfriend happens to be the omega’s fated mate’ trope. Or the omega just happens to go into early heat for reasons and…well, you can guess where the plot goes from there. So. Many. Options.
